Philips, family of entrepreneurs, Zaltbommel - Eindhoven Gerard and Anton Philips were among the greatest Dutch entrepreneurs of the twentieth century. The Philips brothers came from a family of energetic Zaltbommel entrepreneurs with a great deal of experience in national and international trade. Since the beginning of the nineteenth century, the Philips family had a keen eye for new developments, and business opportunities were exploited energetically. Time and again, when starting new businesses, use was made of previously built up expertise and networks. Family members helped each other by combining business interests, sharing knowledge and providing capital. Against this background, the light bulb factory in Eindhoven was founded in 1891. In this book, Jan Paulussen, business historian Philips, gives an outline of the entrepreneurship of the Philips family. He shows how elements of the family culture from Zaltbommel were continued in Eindhoven. Even after the IPO in 1912, N.V. Philips retained the characteristics of a family business for a long time. It is a special story, richly illustrated with unique photos from, among others, the Philips family and the company archives of Philips.
