Mathieu Clement - Artist by nature

Artist Mathieu Clement. So gifted, died so early.

Three authors sketch his life and work against the background of the Eindhoven art climate of his time, when the now so vibrant metropolis of Eindhoven was only a provincial city. The Propaganda department of the growing Philips group had a strong will to modernize with the help of artists. There, Clement, fresh from HBS, was recruited as an advertising artist.

In his delicate and expressive free work, he matched up with his colleagues in the region. The climate in the Propaganda department inspired him to create exceptional designs. This resulted in a modest but special oeuvre, which found its place in the 'Eyecatchers' exhibition in the Philips Museum.
